Esders, the Emsland-based family-owned company, has set a new record once again in its 30th anniversary year: the companies of the Esders Group generated total revenues of
EUR 12.7 million in 2019, including Esders GmbH based in Haselünne and the three subsidiaries in China, Poland and the Netherlands. To mark its anniversary, the measurement and test technology specialist for gas and water supply systems donated the Esders Future Prize in 2019. A total of EUR 15,000 was awarded to voluntary initiatives committed to environmental protection and biodiversity.

“In 2019, we once again achieved stable sales growth and consistently invested in minds and efficient production processes,” says Managing Director and company founder Bernd Esders. This, combined with solid reserves and a high equity ratio, allows him to be “cautiously optimistic” about the future, even in times of crisis. Last year, the management team was expanded to include son Stefan Esders. The graduate mechanical engineer had already made his first designs for the company during his studies. In addition to design, he is now responsible for the business areas of process optimization and production.

Research and development pushes the growth

In order to push ahead with research and development, Esders expanded its development team. In 2019, two additional experienced software developers and a design engineer joined the 20-member team. The total number of employees grew from 122 to 132, and the medium-sized company currently employs 135 people, over 100 are working at the headquarters in Haselünne. The year 2019 was also marked by the optimization of production processes. For this purpose, new work tables were purchased, which enable the computer-aided production of devices and assemblies. A technician’s project work laid the foundation for painting circuit boards with a new robot. The technology is to be introduced into production in the current year.

To mark its anniversary, the company, founded in 1989, presented the Esders Future Prize worth 15,000 euros last spring. The aim was to promote voluntary commitment to environmental and nature conservation for a specific purpose. In autumn, the supra-regional jury was able to consider 24 submissions from all over Germany and Switzerland. Finally, the jury decided in favor of three projects of nature conservation and environmental education from the Emsland. “The fact that only applications from the Emsland won was not planned at all”, says Esders, “but the majority of applications also came from our region”. The first prize and 8,000 euros were awarded to the Haselünne fishing club for the creation of a habitat area for rare fish species in the Lotter Beeke. 5,000 euros went to the seminar subject “Marianum for future” at the Meppen grammar school Marianum. The third-place winner, “Land Unter e.V.”, which is committed to preserving the typical Emsland heath landscape, was delighted to receive 2,000 Euro. “In the interests of sustainability, we want to continue to accompany and visit the award-winning projects,” said Bernd Esders. Although this is currently not possible due to the Corona crisis, he added, it is only on a postponed basis and not cancelled.
