Esders-Pipeline-Service-GmbH

Esders Pipeline Service GmbH

The technology company Esders, based in Haselünne, is expanding its service portfolio to include trenchless pipe rehabilitation. In spring, the Emslanders acquired the German subsidiary of the Austrian group RTI Rohrtechnik internationally. It now operates under the name Esders Pipeline Service GmbH with headquarters in Bielefeld. The core expertise of the new company includes rehabilitation using hose lining and close-fit procedures for pressure and gravity pipelines. The company also specialises in high-pressure cleaning and optical inspection of sewer and landfill pipes.

“We are winning 35 excellently trained employees and are expanding our expertise in an area that complements the core business of Esders GmbH synergetically,” says Managing Director Bernd Esders. Esders GmbH develops and produces measuring devices and testing equipment and software for gas and water supply. After more than 30 years of organic growth, this is the first acquisition of the family-run medium-sized company. In addition to experienced employees, the new subsidiary brings with it a highly specialised fleet of vehicles and equipment as well as comprehensive certifications.

“The specific challenges involved in cleaning and inspecting landfill pipes include enormous shaft depths and distances,” says Bernd Esders. At the same time, the leachate is heavily contaminated, and pipelines show incrustations and deposits. Here the company has a flushing vehicle that can operate with high-performance pumps in shaft depths of up to 30 metres. Equipped with 800-metre long high-pressure hoses, landfill pipes can be cleaned over a distance of more than one and a half kilometres via two shafts. Esders Pipeline Service GmbH’s customers include refineries and chemical parks in addition to the public sector. The company holds all the main certifications, approvals and quality marks for work ranging from water protection areas to petrochemicals. These include certification in accordance with the Water Resources Act, as a DVGW specialist company and the Safety Certificate Contractors for Petrochemicals, or SCCP for short.

The SCCP standard comprises a globally recognised management system including safety approvals for the performance of services in the petrochemical industry. The requirements of this standard go far beyond those of the SCC certificate (Safety Certificate Contractors), which regulates the general requirements of occupational safety, health and environmental protection. The SCCP certificate therefore always includes SCC certification for all other industries.

Investment in a crisis-proof business area

Even in times of Corona, Bernd Esders describes the largest acquisition in the company’s history as a healthy entrepreneurial venture. “The opportunities far outweigh the risks. Just to build up the expertise and routine that the new employees bring with them would take years”. Furthermore, the business area will be expanded by a division that offers a variety of interfaces and synergy effects with the core business. While Esders GmbH’s measuring instruments are strongly represented in public companies and utilities, the majority of former RTI customers come from industry, especially from the Ruhr area. Conversely, the pipeline company should benefit from the transfer of technology and knowledge in the areas of process control, IT and marketing. As the majority of the workforce lives in East Westphalia, Esders has moved the headquarters of the new subsidiary from Hannover-Langenhagen to Bielefeld.
